Fiber Splicer

OBJECTIVES: In our construction division, a fiber splicer responsibility will be to splice optic cables in both indoor and outdoor settings. He will need to create and maintain splicing schematics and diagrams. He will need to maintain adequate splicing notes, respect timelines and provide accurate inspecting and troubleshooting.

REPORTS TO: Project Managers

CLASSIFICATION: Full time (40-50 hours a week)

Key tasks and function

Splice fiber optic cables, both loose tubes and ribbon optic cables. Construct a proper splice case
Create and maintain splicing sheets
Understand and interpret drawings, splicing diagrams and blueprints
Enter and maintain outside plant records
Perform maintenance and recognize and repair route issues

Qualifications and skills

Fiber splicing experience
Knowledge and experience with aerial and underground infrastructure, fiber, HFC, and coaxial systems
Knowledge and experience using Windows computers and MS Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles involved in production, technical plans, blueprints, drawings, etc
Experience with working at heights
Good analytical skills and good judgment
Excellent attention to detail
Good communication skills – written, verbal, and drawing
Ability to work well either alone or on a team
Professional and friendly demeanor; represents company well when meeting clients
Fluency in English. Knowledge of French would be considered an asset
Ontario Class ‘G’ License or equivalent with clean driving record
